To meme or not to meme?

That is this email's question.

Yo! Paperboy here 🗞️

Everyone loves memes.

So why isn’t your brand using them?

Some of the biggest brands and most accomplished people in the world use them. And so can you.

Father’s Day is coming up.

In your next few emails, maybe throw in a few dad jokes and a few memes.

This is your permission to have some fun. Show a little personality. Give the brand guidelines a day off.

Post the meme.

But I suck at making memes

I call BS.

Everyone can make great memes.

You just need to tap into your everyday.

Find those little frustrations, awkward moments, laughs, or shared experiences that resonate universally.

If you have writer’s block, try my friend Jason’s software. It helps you make memes and costs $6.90 per month (a meme in itself). He didn’t pay me to say that, I just use his software all the time.

Just a few crazy experiences I’ve had with memes from his software:

  • A few memes I’ve posted have gotten 500k+ views on social

  • I’ve had clients for my email agency come to me from a meme they found funny in this newsletter

  • I’ve had client Klaviyo emails featuring my memes do 10s of thousands in revenue in a single day

This isn’t meant to be a brag. I am not a particularly funny person. But I still manage to make memes people like. It takes time and experimentation. But I believe anybody can do it.

If you truly understand your customer and your industry (all marketers should), you’ll have no problem making memes that hit.

Ok but I still don’t know where to start

Here’s a few meme ideas you can start with for a Father’s Day email:

Put something nostalgic or ridiculous that recently happened over this one
“10 years from now when my son asks me about Y”

These are just a few examples. Go on google images and search “[your niche] meme” and you’ll get flooded with endless memes you can use or repurpose.

Happy meme’ing 🤙🏼

And for my last meme…

That’s all for now,
Paperboy 🗞

p.s. Did you like the newsletter? Hate it? Reply and tell me why! I read and reply to every message. I think I’m also done with Shakespeare puns. Sorry.
